The power of Smart Canucks.

A true story written by one very lucky member of a Canadian messaging board smartcanucks.ca

The week of June 1st, I put out a plea to trade anyone coupons for Canadian Tire money, I wasn't expecting much, maybe 5-6$ total, but smartcanucks.ca proved me wrong. And the power of random acts of kindness (RAOK) really moved my world.

My Lilman's birthday was coming up, he was going to be the BIG 5!!!!!!!!!!! And as all mom's to older children, birthdays are expensive. His wishlist was a bike, and lego. Not much right? However that's easily $150.00 +!!

I traded with awesome members, who not only sent their trades of generous amounts of Canadian Tire money, but well wishes and handmade birthday cards. One member also raided her husband's CT stash just to trade with me :) A friend who has known Lilman all his life, her and her family generously donated $50.00, my neighbour also donated CT $, and $20.00, plus a bag full of lose pennies!

Not all donated is photographed, about 3 trades are missing of canadian tire money.

this is my son and his FIRST bike I purchased...

It ended up being WAY too big, and WAY to heavy for him to control, so after his sister hopped in a picture too (notice the socks and sandles? It was a scramble to get outside to try it out!! LOL)

we decided we'd return it and get something better suited for a new two wheel rider, and it was the BEST choice, because today, we came back with this:

and the rear view :

And it cost the same as the first picture, but this on is a Schwinn It rocks! I like it much better (has mommy approved handlebars ) and he LOVES it.

I couldn't have asked for a better outcome, Thank you so much for making my son's 5th birthday a HIT! It went over well and I saved a lot of money, making it even better with 2 other smaller gifts he wanted and a yummy cake!!!

Can't you feel their summer spirits??

THANK YOU SC FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ikea woes

Customer service sucked
Stock sucked
Delivery SUCKS.
Ikea might be on my totally sucky list from now on..

I went there yesterday with my 3 year old and my Man, and this was the FIRST time ever (yes I know, sad, but what can I do?) I went into a store, looking for a large purchase to buy with cash in hand. I walked in wanting to purchase a double bed, with a mattress.. we walked through the sunday shoppers, and made our way to the beds.. We had already picked out the model, of bed, just needed to find the right mattress, and then the waiting started... First, second and third choice were sold out, and what do you know so is the size of bed we want. Funny, thursday they said they were getting double shipment.

I looked at the customer service girl, and kinda went off! I told her I was in thursday, sold out, and now sold out. I said a few more random words then followed suit of my 3 year old and we parked our butts on (a very uncomfortable) mattress and a couple behind us said "If you are looking for customer service come during the week, they don't care here"

I sent my Man in to do the talking after we both decided on a QUEEN sized bed! YAHOO! and voila 30 min later, we had a piece of paper saying we wanted a bed and mattress and they wanted $580.00 (before tax ofcourse) from us. We couldn't stuff it in the car, so we opted for shipping. WHOA. We waited in line for another 30 minutes to get the shipping organized and pay..
WHAT...
$704.12 LATER!!!!!!!!!! I mean $69.00 for delivery? I almost died.

My last words said in Ikea were
"Excuse me, I need to get out of here" while I was trying to get through a line..

Everyone else shopping there was pleasent and happy and not frazzeled.. I walked out of there hot, red faced and my hair a mess!

I too want to be a happy Ikea shopper... But after that.. I don't think I want to go in.. Lucky my Man said he'd go in after work to pick up our dressers...

UGH

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Want to try out some granola bars that are REALLY good for you?

I just got my FPC coupon in the mail today!! :)

(right click please!!!!)

How do you recycle?

We recycle on a daily basis, from our drinking straws (washed) to juice boxes, cartons, paper, envelopes, and pop bottles!

In QC, we pay a $0.05 deposit whenever we buy bottled pop, and if we return it, we get that five cents back!! So in the begining when we got our blue bins, I was just poppin' the bottles in the bin, and either they'd get recycled, or someone who collects them (which happens ALL the time, people going threw bins to get the bottles) would take them. I tried to keep the bottles, but they'd get too much and I'd never remember to return them!!

I recently cleaned out my water closet and donated a bunch of things to the local St. Vincent du Paul so I had room, I've been collecting our bottles (No we don't ransak others bins) for about a month and have 5.5 black trash bags full!!!!!!!! five cents times A LOT is money in the bank for the little ones.. It doesn't seem like a lot, but one, we are recycling, and two its "free" money to put in their bank

How can that not be a bargin?
